About the Event
Surfing in the Sixties is headed back to the Dominican Republic in November for the 2nd annual Surf and Serve trip. If you wish to go on the trip or learn more about the trips please contact us as soon as possible.
Attached is the contest T-shirt art work with open sponsor options. As a sponsor, you will receive a T-shirt and the Gold sponsors will also receive a free membership which includes a coffee mug and the privilege to travel with us to our surf and serve destinations which include the DR in November 2022, El Salvador in February 2023 and Costa Rica in April 2023.
Your support is used to put on a surf contest for the local kids and to sponsor two of the kids from each destination in their surfing career. We are bringing our team riders from El Salvador, Marvin Rodrigues and Julissa Castillo, to the Dominican Republic to surf against the DR kids including Alejandro Ciprian, our DR team rider. We hope to pick up a girl team rider from the DR this year and bring her and Alejandro to El Salvador in February 2023. It's cool to support these young rippers and watch their surfing talent blossom, yet for them to surf and serve together and with us, demonstrates caring for those in communities that have less than us, even when the team riders might have very little themselves.
Your support will also allow us to serve the street kids at Ninos de la Luz in the DR, including purchasing building materials and basic needs - shoes / clothes / school supplies. Last year we worked with missionaries John and Shannon Haslett and the boys on a cistern for water collection and this year we plan on rebuilding a canopy that was destroyed by hurricane Ian as well as other general repairs and building maintenance. We are there to serve whatever the need is. The cool thing about John is that he is right there with us and the boys - digging / pouring concrete / mixing concrete / tying steel / laying block and cleaning up at the end of the day. We are also planning a one-day medical clinic for the families in the mountains above Ninos de la Luz. We will also be giving those families a water purification kit and teaching them how to use it. Many families are living on dirt floors with poor sanitary conditions.
When stepping out in faith to serve, we are aware of other doors that open up for us. Kevin traveled to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica in this year and through the hotel owner discovered an abused women and children shelter just 40 minutes from the surf. Fernando, the hotel owner, is super stoked about the surfing contest and is getting his friends to help us with the local surf contest. Surfing in the Sixties is planning to go there in April 2023.
We have added the clinic to the DR agenda this year from a seed that our own doctor Camp planted last year with Jorge from Carambola Surf House.
During a Board Riders contest here in NSB, Corey Howell mentioned water purification kits he wants to donate… Doors open and we see how the mosaic comes together.
Our trips last year to El Salvador and the Dominican Republic have proven to be full of adventure, fun and hard work. The opportunity to surf amazing waves and give back to underprivileged communities is a simple concept, yet the results of all the new friends and happy kids is super cool. Our actions encourage local surfer kids and other observers to care for their beaches and their communities. This is the seed we hope to plant with each trip.
Thanks so much for your support. Please send your logo (JPEG or PDF) via email or the name you wish to have on the contest T-shirt as well as the size of T-shirt and the address to send the T-shirt. You can sponsor on line (surfinginthesixties.com) or send a check to:
